François Burland

Exhibition from 25th April to 15th Juny 2008

Une œuvre de l'artisteFrançois Burland was born in 1958 in Lausanne (Switzerland). Since his childhood, he draws and is passionately fond of Greek and Celtic mythology and of the Dogon’s, Indian’s and Aborigine’s cosmogony. After a marginal adolescence, he begins to paint, knowing nothing whatever about constraints.

His art work, showed in Switzerland, in France and in United States since 1984, make a large way for ritual and magical art of primitive and nomad people he discovers in his trips, notably in Sahara where he had many occasions to meet Tuaregs. The artists lets him guide by his intuitions and paints a fantastic bestiary who emerges of mists of time, under the form of totemic animals. Because, François Burland’s drawings, like he defends him, have something of shamanism. He says the birds comes to him when he begins to sing in the forest.

The artist has a predilection for brown paper that he unrolls like a carpet on which he draws with a pencil and with néocolor. He realises also cars and trucks with salvage materials and sculpts totems. A lot of his drawings and sculptures are in the “Neuve Invention” Collection in Lausanne and in others public and private collections trough the world.
